My General thoughts and musings

Just some musing on how long its been since I updated my flight blogs (January 2011)

Was a very crisp and cool morning (3 degrees at 8am) but was warming up to be nice.

The engine is now starting to loosen up and run better.  I'm really enjoying this heli.

Nothing special about the flights. they went very smoothly with piro stall turns flips, loops and rolls.

Must get a header tank as I do not like the way the engine leans out at the end of the tank.

Two flights of 8 and 9 minutes each

Well it was a crisp morning ruined by a strong wind that blew up.

An ok flight.  Was very hard to do anything as the heli would get blown all over the place.

I came in and landed at the 3 minute mark and the heli flamed out.  Fuel was also pouring out the carb like mad, so not sure what happened.  Released the tank pressure, restarted and finished the tank off.  No fuel spilling out after that.

A single 7 minute flight

Another beautiful day for flying... :) Another 2 great flights with the N2. A slight mishap on the first flight though, with a hurried landing due to engine leaning out from not watching the tank level and nearly running out of fuel, I landed the tail on a tuft of grass and stripped the tail gears. I replaced the gears and was back in the air ready for another flight. The second flight I forgot to close off the pressure relief valve and so I was running with minimal tank pressure.  The...

It started off looking pretty bleak and at one stage got quite cold, before the sun burnt the clouds away and it warmed up :) Two excellent flights on the Velo. :)  Leaned the main needle by a total of 3 clicks and also leaned off the idle.  It is still rich as can be on idle (10 second idle with fuel line clamped) so will lean that off a touch more. The heli is a dream to fly.  it rolls loops and flips so nicely and despite the wind, the heli would still sit there in a hands off hover and only drift slightly with the wind....

Woohoo :)  A "real" flight with the Velocity :) Started off realy warm at the field, but unfortunately as we were preparing to go out for more flights, the rains set in :( I only hovered the heli, with an easy pitch pump and some piroettes.  The engine is running extremely rich, as this is now the second tank through it, but I will have to lean it off slightly so it runs a bit smoother. Pinch test at idle, then engine ran for an easy 15 seconds before revving up. I have leaned the main...

Well, it started off as an awesome flight, but 5 minutes into the flight I ended up stripping the main gear.  I was able to auto down from about 10metres, only damage was the spur gear - totally stripped of teeth.  I suspect I may have set the gear mesh a little loose. The flight... one word can sum it up... AWESOME The difference between the V50N2 and the Trex600n is like the difference in the Trex between the Align 3G FBL unit and VBar. It just did everything so much easier and smoother...

Woohoo... She flies :)

Maiden flight of the Outrage Velocity 50 N2.

Was just a hover in the driveway, but it was such a smooth and stable hover considering how rich the motor is running

First "flight" (hover) of 4 minutes

Now to go over and make sure all screws etc are still tight :)
